Do I need a safety certificate?

Landlords are legally required to have an EICR carried out at regular intervals. Homeowners may also benefit from periodic inspections to ensure safety.

Why does my circuit breaker keep tripping?

This is usually caused by an overloaded circuit, a faulty appliance, or a wiring issue. A qualified inspection will identify the exact cause.

How Do You Know If Your Home Needs New Wiring or Extra Circuits?

Electrical systems don’t last forever, and today’s homes place much higher demands on them. Outdated or overloaded wiring can become unsafe if not addressed.

Common warning signs include:

  • Frequent tripping breakers or blown fuses

  • Flickering or dimming lights

  • Burning smells or discoloured sockets

  • Buzzing from switches or the consumer unit

  • An old-style fuse board

  • Rubber, fabric, or aluminium wiring

  • A property that hasn’t been rewired in 25+ years

If your installation is ageing or hasn’t been inspected recently, it’s advisable to have it professionally checked.

Can you add sockets or lighting to an existing circuit?

In many cases yes, but the circuit must be assessed first to ensure it can safely handle the additional load.

How much will the job cost?

Costs vary depending on the type of work, materials required, and whether testing or certification is needed. We’re happy to provide a clear quotation before any work begins.

The Top Questions Electricians Wish People Would Stop Asking

Every industry has its myths and electrical work is no different. While we’re always happy to help, there are a few common questions that often oversimplify what’s involved.

“Can’t you just…?”

Electrical work rarely involves a quick shortcut. Safety regulations, testing, certification, and compliance all take time. There’s usually more happening behind the scenes than meets the eye.

“It’s only a small job — it’ll be cheap, right?”

Even minor work must meet current regulations and be properly tested. The size of the visible task doesn’t always reflect the responsibility involved.

“My mate said it’s fine.”

Electrical safety isn’t based on opinion, it’s based on standards and legislation. What worked years ago may no longer be compliant or safe.

“Can you just connect this up?”

Adding to existing wiring without checking load capacity, earthing, and protection can create serious safety risks.

We understand that most questions come from a good place. If you’re unsure about something, we’re always happy to provide clear, professional advice — just give us a call on 0191 375 9985.
